Kidney Stent due to Kidney stone
by Steven J.
After four (4) days of experiencing severe pain on my left side (due to kidney stone), I was admitted to the ER. They took samples of blood and urine for testing and also performed a CT scan, to determine the severity of the problem.
The tests showed kidney malfunction so I was admitted for emergency kidney stent surgery. I was placed under general anaesthesia and was knocked out for about an hour. When I woke up the stent was in place.
I could not actually feel the stent, however, I always feel the need to urinate (male patient) and feel the need to go again, right after finishing... very frustrating. There is a lot of blood in my urine but I am drinking lots of water. Eventually, it will turn back to its normal color. I am experiencing some pain so some pain medication was prescribed.
I stayed in hospital for two and a half (2.5) days... I felt awful. Subsequently, after experiencing some pain, I visited a Urologist at the emergency walk-in. They prescribed more pain killers and something called Oxybutynin, which alleviates the spasms.
I now have to wait three (3) weeks for laser blast of the stone and kidney stent removal. For the first week after initial surgery they recommended lots of bed rest and lots of fluids all the time.
